My name is Kalei Vasquez. I'm interested in exploring the question: what does it mean to be human?
Starting with the simplest human instincts to the most complex traditions, from the most recurring emotions to indescribable experiences, we all share a foundation and a consciousness that has been with us for thousands of years. Whether we remember it or not, to be human is to be a part of something bigger—to be profoundly connected to all those who live today, all those who have ever lived, and all those who have yet to be born.
I create audio, video, and multimedia stories composed of interviews and scenes from the world around us, focusing on ideas that anyone can speak to simply by being human. Even from a wide variety of viewpoints, the unity of the human experience inevitably emerges, spanning topics, personalities, and the incredible range of social differences. In a moment when we are simultaneously more connected and disconnected than ever before, I want to elevate an intense awareness about the deeper commonalities of the human condition, from our joys to our frustrations, from our wisdom to our eternal questions.
With this work, my goal is to encourage a bit of reflection, reveal the empathy within us all, inspire an appreciation for all that we share, and ultimately, create a little bit more wonder.

Live music is an old, visceral, and universal human tradition. In fact, the peak moments of a good concert can feel beyond euphoric. But what is it about live music that moves us and why do we keep coming back to it?

There's growing up and then there's getting older, a gradual awareness of the weight of experience and time. What does it feel like to get older and how is it proccessed—that distance between who one was and who one is now?

We all belong to a country; originally or not, technically or not, like it or not. How do we develop and maintain a sense of national identity? And what are the roles of history, the people around us, and culture in shaping that?
